would you wear a vera wang just because it's a vera wang?

Brides getting married in 2011 will be excited to discover that they will be able to buy an affordable Vera Wang wedding dress for their big day. Vera Wang has released her WHITE collection with dresses ranging from $600-$1400 exclusive to David's Bridal in America who will be the official retailer for this collection. This news comes a little too late for me but it did get me thinking about whether I would wear one of her gowns just so that I could say "I am wearing a wang". Would I chose a dress that I semi loved just to be able to say for the rest of my life...I wore a Vera Wang on my wedding day?
Confession, I hated choosing a wedding gown, I knew I wanted something simple, silk satin and elegant but I found finding something simple and silk satin just impossible. I had one very helpful sales assistant tell me if I wanted something plain and simple I wouldn't look or feel like a bride! Well who else is going to be wearing a cathedral veil on the day?? I am pretty sure no one is going to confuse me for a my aunt rose wearing Ivory on the day. The first picture is the dress my own wedding gown was modeled off. It's called "Cassandra" and it's by Vera Wang but I couldn't afford the price tag so I made some changes bought the picture to my dress maker and seven weeks later I am wearing a "Wang influence"...

I was recently super excited to be given a mac book for work, a macbook really does have that cool element to it when you're sitting in a cafe blogging...however the problem is the big fluro orange and black carry bag that came with it! Luckily for me and you I have found the perfect, stylish and practical tote bag that comes with a laptop sleave to slip that thin laptop in. www.onelanguagelabel.com has a large range of 100% eco-friendly natural cotton canvas totes that are just perfect for all the picnics and day trips you're going to be taking this Christmas break. You'll love their designs and texture- promise!

the wedding.

I am jealous of this wedding. When I browsed through the images on Alarna Zin's blog "Little Jane Street" I think my heart skipped a beat or two. Jonas Peterson http://www.jonaspeterson.com/ as I've said before on this blog is a master at his craft. I just love his soft approach to colour, lighting and his attention and focus on the intricate details.  Congratulations to the beautiful bride and groom, it's obvious your day was filled with loads of laughter, surprises and of course love the great beautifier.
It's also definitely worth having a look at http://www.littlejanetst.com.au/ for your Christmas shopping this year, she has an eccentric range of ribbons, buttons, boutique stationery...just about everything you want for Christmas!

Someone is getting a Jessie Steele vintage apron for Christmas. I am not exactly sure who but these aprons are just irresistibly yummy. I can't even remember the last time I wore an apron but I am positive I would be a far better cook if I had one. I am absolutely sure that her aprons make every cupcake taste that much more delicious. Her website is jessie steele.com and she has an expansive range of every kitchen necessity to stop that bunt cake from burning. She even has an amazing range of tote bags, gloves and the fabrics ohhh the fabrics...yummy jubbly! When was the last time you gave someone an apron?

My friend and I were on the hunt for some really tackie markets on the weekend. You know the type of markets that are literally littered with brick-a-bracs and worn out handkerchiefs. I even had a little old lovely lady try and sell me someones undergarments...bless her pink cotton, handmade socks! Anyhow, my friend bought some old, stained doilies, beautiful handmade doilies. My friend is so clever she has skillfully and creatively turned these old, forgotten doilies into chic vintage decorative pieces that adorn her table...check her blog out "I want to be a vagabond", for some skillful ideas on what to do with the scuffs of yesterday I also recommend looking at http://dottieangel.blogspot.com/ for some incredible creative inspiring ideas.
As for me...I want to try and make this handbag!!

we love wednesdays and we love milena

These photos by Milena Dekic are just a glimpse of her outstanding ability to capture detail and expression. Her website "I Love Wednesdays" http://www.ilovewednesdays.com/exhibits award winning photographs. I had the opportunity to talk and work with Milena earlier this year and I can absolutely and confidently say that she makes her subjects relaxed while meeting their needs and expectations...and she always has chocolate on hand... Her website is a joy to look at, I often visit it just to see what enchanting moments she has recently captured on camera. She is exceptionally talented and I couldn't think of anyone better to promote if you're looking for a wedding photographer in Sydney and surrounding areas. Her ability to use lighting and texture in her work is evidence of her ability to make every photo hold awe.
PS: Beautiful Bride and Groom too!

THE WEEKEND IS UPON US!

love is the great beautifier

love is the great beautifier. It was early, very early Friday morning and I began to read the opening chapters of the sequel to "Little Women" called "Good Wives" which should be more appropriately titled "little wives" (as they were far too young in my opinion to be married) anyhow.. Jo in the opening few pages says these words "love is the great beautifier" and it arrested my heart because Jo was right. Love is the great beautifier.
Love is the greatest of all things.

perhaps a merry 'dinosaur' christmas for me?

This may seem a tad deceptive but there are two reasons for this post. You see on the weekend my wonderful, wonderful husband took me on a jaunt to Paddington Sydney. If you haven't visited this cocktail of vintage, chic 1970 florals and ultra modern designs, you absolutely need to get yourself there...this weekend! No excuses! Soooo I realise now that I have been living in a little vacuum for the past few years, but truth is up until this Saturday I've never swooned over the label Dinosaur Designs, a number of my friends have signature handmade pieces, but to me really i couldn't understand the fuss....That is until I walked into their store in Paddington... A simile for dinosaur designs "it's like having a choice of designer skittles to choose from and you simply can't decide". The store had energy, light, and a savvyness about it- I tried to walk away but I couldn't hence the problem, my beautiful, generous husband asked me to choose one and he would buy it for me but I couldn't decide. I couldn't commit to one colour. I just couldn't decide. So dear husband of mine, a little test to see if you're following my blogs...I like the light blue one and I love you...

come live with me and be my love

"And i will make thee beds of roses
and a thousand fragrant posies
a cap of flowers and a kirtle
embroidered all with leaves of myrtle"

my friends I hope your wednesday is filled with... lovely roses, some vintage lace and a few posies!

come away with me...

today i feel the urge to fly away to a place just like this.
A place where you don't have to worry about the dentists reaction to you eating far too much fairy floss, a place where buying a show bag was just as exciting as opening presents on Christmas morning. A place where laughter and family is the great beautifier.

what is to become of Jalna?

In the film "You've Got Mail" Meg Ryan says  "what you read becomes part of your identity of who you are"...As a child we read stories too many stories of women finding pure joy and their identity in their man. These works by Bethany Allibone put a torch on the role literature has in shaping our identity. Her artwork "my constructed Voyeurism" challenges the sexualisation of women in novels especially pulp fiction. Her works explore the juxtaposition of men and women in stories and the escapism they create for readers. I love her use of colours, texture and concepts. Her 3D, multidimensional works brings to life her ideas so creatively.

wedding thoughtfulness

I love going to weddings and noticing the little details. The miniature things that most guests gaze over, yet ironically have likely kept the bride up for hours at night!
This little colouring in book (love themed of course) was left on each table for the children. It was a clever way to keep them entertained and occupied during the tedious and lengthy speeches.
Smart bride!
Today it's raining...the kind of rain that makes you want to stay inside your house, wrap yourself in a nanna rug, pull out your brown ugg boots and drink warm tea. As much as that's a lovely image, I am indignant that it's almost the end of spring and I've seen no spring!
Shakespeare wrote:
"Sweet lovers love the spring"...well there is nothing to love about Spring this year (probably shouldn't say that since I got married this spring) but nevertheless it also rained on our wedding day...Dear God I am sick of my winter clothes...I want to be wearing floral prints, I want to be wearing soft feminine prints with a relaxed 1950's vibe...(especially everything on page 40 of this months madison)...please, please, please bring on spring, bring on the daisies, mangos, passionfruits and botanical garden lunches!

Anyone for French Vintage Lace?

For some reason this photo makes me want to drink tea, eat date scones with cream and watch anything Audrey Hepburn...

rude dog man...

I went to a wedding on the weekend, a beautiful wedding really, with all the traditional trimmings for a "perfect wedding day" the ceremony was held at a park in Sydney and "this man" (I am saying that with a tone) was walking his dog & allowed his dog to run rings literally around the bride and groom as they read their vow's aloud...this didn't just happen once but over and over again. The dog ran through the legs of guests and the bridal party...I couldn't believe how rude this dog owner was, he was obviously aware that the wedding was in full force but felt his canine could contribute to the overall excitement of the day!

Dear Rude dog man...note to self if there is a wedding on, best to keep your dog at home!

I have no idea what I am doing

This is my first attempt at a blog...what will I blog about? I'll blog about the funny incidents that occur during the day, the things that inspire me and the things that make me indignant...i hope it becomes an interesting point of call when you just need to escape from the task at hand...
