a touch of Jane

I love Jane Austen. I think I am intrigued mostly by her use of language and sophistication. I find her enigmatic in that she wrote so clearly about the complexities of marriage yet never married herself. On another note, I also love what this clever bride has done to create a very regal looking wedding. The detail and lace on this dress is beautiful and can you see how long the veil actually is?

it's only tuesday

Today is Tuesday but I wish it was Friday or even Saturday. It's always that little bit harder to get up on Tuesday mornings.By Tuesday I am always longing for Thursday when I can take a seat, take a little break during  the day and slow things down a tad ready for Friday. Yes Tuesdays aren't for me.

still reading??

I blogged recently about the difference between reading a story on your phone and reading a book cuddled up under your blankie and a cup of tea. Now I've just discovered another reason why reading an actual book is better than reading on your iphone...BOOKMARKS!!! How different and savvy are these clever little pieces from beacon bookmarks. They would motivate even the most cynical of anti book readers. check out their website and blog.
Love it!!

I pledge to read the printed word.

The news of Borders bookshop in America going under quietly upset me a little. I know it's easy to buy a book on line but I for one will miss the experience of going into a bookstore and loitering around the store until I find something that interests me... I am sorry reading a novel on your iphone just isn't the same. I love the feeling of the book in my hands, especially a second hand book. Do you remember that line from You've Got Mail where Meg Ryan says "what you read becomes part of your identity of who you are".
I will pledge to read the printed word.

pottering around at pottery barn

Out of all the countries I've visited in the world. I've never been to America which means I've never been to pottery barn. Now all the "Friends" enthusiasts will recognize this store from the episode where Rachael buys half the pottery barn collection for her apartment and Phoebe HATES pottery barn. I was pottering around their website this afternoon and it's definitely worth the look especially their clearance section. Some delightful pieces to be found.

if winter has to come...

To my disgust I discovered the other day that summer in Australia has ticked over for another year. As I've expressed previously in this blog...I am indignant with summer this year! It's rained far too much for it to be a successful summer and I only got the chance to laze about the beach less than a handful of times. So with that if winter has to come, then I'll be needing to update my wardrobe with the above.
I especially love the serpent necklace.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My sould can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and Ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's

the dream tee

We own a golf store, have I ever mentioned that? A lovely golf store and everyday I go to my regular job and then pop into our shop on the way home. It's really a wonderful feeling knowing that you own a business. That this is your own little company that will continue to grow, prosper and be a blessing to our little family. I am so proud of my husband. Babe you may not read this (cause I am not exactly convinced that you do regularly read my blog updates) however, I am really proud of you, our shop and everything you've done. Happy golfing everyone!

something for a boy

You know how buying presents for girls is always easier then boys. Well I just love that I've got in my hands right now a unique Johnny trulove belt. The boys at Johnny trulove make these ridiculously cool belts  from 1st grade Italian leather with pewter buckles. Contact them for stockists at sales@johnnytrulove.com.au . We gave our groomsmen each a johnny trulove belt instead of the traditional cuff links...boring! And they loved it. They looked so smart on the day and what a great way to say thanks! Things you should know:
- they go with everything!
- he will love it- promise!
- they contain traces of silver
- they are made in Australia
- they deliver anywhere in the world
visit their website at http://www.johnnytrulove.com.au
Did I mention my Pa who is 82 has one too!

guilt free chocolate

When I was single and living alone I would buy a block of chocolate, eat it, and then spend the rest of the week promising I would never do that again. Then I got married and things got even better. I now buy a block of chocolate, knowing full well that I could devour the entire thing without any help and it sits in the fridge and day by day it shrinks and I don't feel half as guilty because we're both eating it... It really is guilt free chocolate!

...that is until he reveals that he doesn't' like macadamia nut chocolate and indeed you have eaten the entire thing by yourself. How did that happen again??

"but your soul you must keep totally free"

[the+paper+planes.jpg]
Loving Mumford and Sons at the moment:

"Lend me your hand and we'll conquer them all
But lend me your heart and I'll just let you fall
Lend me your eyes I can change what you see
but your soul you must keep totally free"

excited about a working bee

I've been feeling a little jaded about my working environment lately. The colour scheme in my office is blue, blue and more blue. It was wonderful to receive an email from management about the company having a working bee this month. I am excited to be able to sprite up the office and splash some colour around. I love my job, love what I do and now I am even more excited to be able to work in an office that stimulates my creativity. Looking forward to working with the little bumble bee's.

"so this is what makes life divine" said cinderella

 "So this is love,
So this is what makes life divine"
-Cinderella

I was one of those brides who never spent her childhood wearing a pillow case over her head pretending she was a bride walking down the isle. So planning a wedding late last year was not exactly the easiest thing I've ever done. The endless amounts of blogs, bridal magazines and opinions were making me more and more confused...until the lovely Nicola from http://lovelyprettycheerythings.blogspot.com/ came to the rescue. Nicole was able to point us in the direction of a wonderful photographer, invitation designer and of course a  florist. Here are some pictures of her own wedding earlier this year. Enjoy they're simply lovely, pretty and of course cheery and delightful!

the direction of your dreams

I am very fascinated by the poetry of Henry David Thoreau and his words have been floating around in my thoughts lately. Thoreau says that "If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined he will meet with success unexpected in common hours"...and with that I think what he's saying is...Live the dream friends. I read once that Thoreau wanted to just drop out of society for a time, so he did, he went into the woods, built a house and lived there. Remember that line in the film The Holiday where Kate Winslet meets that lovely old man living in her street and they go out for dinner and he says "In the movies we have leading ladies and we have the best friend. You I can tell are a leading lady but for some reason you are behaving like the best friend"...so true.
